The end of the year usually is a time that we are inundated with solicitations for charities. The big question usually is “Which Charity Should I Give My Money?”. Giving to a charity should be a personal decision. You should be actively involved or be passionate about their goals and mission. Although, there are many other factors you should consider before giving one cent to anybody working for a charitable organization.

1. I’m calling! Therefore, I care the most, gimme!

Many standard charities have made it big business to bring in large sums of cash quickly. As the saying goes, you must spend money to make money. If a charity is soliciting you, they have to spend money for you to give them money in return. It’s also a quick and easy way to tug at your heart, in order for you to open your wallet. Beware of the soliciting charity.

2. We spent the money on really good stuff and things.

It is extremely important to review a charities financial records. If they are not open or do not provide them, that is a red flag. All charities should be open with their financial situation and how they spend their money. If the group you are supporting is managing their money well, they should spend around 65% of their donations to support their cause.

3. Take our Word for it!

Don’t believe what you have been told about the organization you are about to give money. Do your research about the organization from various websites. Highly recommended is charitynavigator.org.

We wish you all the best on you charity endeavors. When all else fails, volunteer directly and you will not have to worry about your donation is being spent! Remember to live life and leave the legal stuff to us!
